The 72ⁿᵈ Primetime Emmys were the first ever VIRTUAL EMMYS. With 138 Stars, in 114 locations, across 10 countries, the show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The broadcast used live feeds from each nominee; to maintain a high-quality presentation, the use of video-conferencing was avoided, with producers sending "professional" cameras to each nominee's location, as well as an operator, if they so chose.
A number of comedy gags acknowledged the pandemic and the format of the ceremony,
with some awards delivered to winners via presenters in tuxedo Hazmat suits.
